Of Monsters and Men Have Some Serious “Skeletons” In This Cover

IMG_0041

Back in November I had the pleasure of seeing Of Monsters and Men at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston. They rocked out for most of the night to songs from their debut album My Head Is an Animal (2011) until at one point when they pulled out a lovely cover of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s “Skeletons.” If you’ve never heard the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s acoustic version of this song then first of all you’re missing out because it’s fantastic and second it could be hard to imagine just what Of Monster and Men’s cover would sound like. Essentially it sounds just like any other song of theirs, but only in the best way. They used their six person band to their advantage (versus the Yeah Yeah Yeahs three) and absolutely killed this song, bringing their upbeat indie folk/rock with them. So, instead of just checking out the video of their cover below, you should also consider listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs acoustic version of “Skeletons” as well as a few others off their album It’s a Blitz! (2009). You can thank me later.
